While touring Charleston SC the tour guide was telling us about “Circular Church” http://www.circularchurch.org/. This is one of the oldest continually meeting congregations in America. Their original meeting house (for which Meeting Street got its name) was a small white building. This was a “Dissenting” church, meaning they were not Anglican.
I found one aspect of their history interesting. They allowed any group of Christians to use this building as a place to meet. Charleston allowed any group of seven people to start their own congregation. So many congregations were born out of that meeting place. It was something of a “green house” for church planting. What a great concept!
